Oat milk can be a good substitute for cow's milk. Some people prefer it because of its nutty flavor, while others like its thickness or use it because they are lactose intolerant or follow a vegan diet.

There are many reasons to use oat milk instead of dairy milk:

  • Oat milk might be lactose intolerant friendly, but check with your doctor first. Most people with lactose intolerance can drink oat milk without any issues
  • Oat milk is healthier than other types of non-dairy milk (except maybe almond or coconut milk). It has more protein than soy milk and fewer calories than rice or cashew milk
  • Oat milk tastes better than other types of non-dairy milks. In fact it tastes so good that it’s hard to believe it’s healthy
  • Oat milk is easier to make at home than almond or coconut milks Oat milk is also cheaper than most non-dairy milks

I had my first oat milk in a coffee shop in London. I’ve always been a fan of alternative milks and have tried many of them, but oat milk has become my favorite. It’s slightly sweet, creamy and with a smooth texture that makes it so delicious. I love it in coffee, tea, smoothies or simply added to my granola, porridge or cereals for breakfast.

If you want to learn how to make oat milk from scratch at home, this is the best recipe! It’s easy and requires only 2 ingredients.

The base ingredient for this recipe is oats. I use rolled oats (also known as old fashioned oats) for making this recipe as I like their texture better than quick oats (instant oats), but you can use either of them.

I prefer using unsweetened versions of oats, but you can use sweetened ones too.

The second ingredient is water which needs to be filtered if possible. If you have hard tap water or live in an area with very chlorinated tap water, you might need to consider using filtered water instead.

Oat milk is a non-dairy milk alternative made from oats. It’s a great vegan substitute for cow’s milk that has multiple health benefits, such as lowering blood cholesterol levels, reducing risk of heart disease and hypertension and lowering risk of diabetes.

Oat milk contains beta-glucan, which is a soluble fiber that is found only in oats and barley. Beta-glucan is known to lower cholesterol by binding to bile acids in the small intestine.
